QUETTA: A fresh case of polio was reported on Friday from the Duki district of Balochistan where an 18-month-old child was diagnosed with the poliovirus.
According to the provincial health department, a child named Muhammad Usman, a resident of Killi Babran, fell victim to the virus. Usman was administered anti-polio vaccine only once during the last six months while he missed anti-polio drops five times. Importantly, it is the third case of poliovirus reported from the same district of Balochistan in the year 2018.
In 2017, three cases of polio surfaced from Balochistan, two cases were reported in 2016, seven in 2015 and 25 in the year 2014.
In 2013, there was no case reported from Balochistan while four cases surfaced in 2012 and 73 in the year 2011.
Hence, there were 117 poliovirus cases in total reported from Balochistan during the last eight years.
